The village of Maywood will be abuzz with residential development in the coming months after the Board of Trustees approved the last of four bundles of village-owned land to a developer who is seeking to build new homes.

During a regular meeting on March 19, the board unanimously approved the sale of a bundle of land comprising three vacant village-owned lots to Orland Hills-based Andrew’s Home Design and Renovation Inc. Trustee Ron Rivers was absent.

The developer, who purchased the bundle of land for $3,000, plans on building four homes on two lots located at 239-241 S. 12th Ave. and 837 S. 17th Ave. in Maywood.

The purchase is part of the village’s Vacant to Valued program, an initiative created in 2017 that allows developers to buy bundles of vacant land owned by the village for low prices in order to spur new construction and get the lots back on the tax roll.

David Myers, the village’s community development director, said on March 19 that Andrews Home Design has been investing in and redeveloping single family homes in the village since 2015.

Some of their completed projects include at 212 S. 16th Ave., which sold for $195,000 in 2015 after being on the market for roughly six months; 1922 S. 23rd Ave., which sold for $196,000 in 2016 after being on the market for roughly six months; and 228 S. 16th Ave., which sold for $210,000 after being on the market for roughly a year.

The new homes that Andrew’s plans to build on the Vacant to Valued lots feature modern designs and could be completed this year, according to material the developer submitted to village officials.
