There’s a lot to do this week in Proviso Township. Here is just a small sampling of events available for you and the family:

Celebrate Good Friday with a play

On Friday, April 19, 7 p.m., at J.W. James AME Church, 907 S. 6th Ave. in Maywood, the church will host Beauty for Ashes, a Good Friday production featuring singing and drama. For more info, call (708) 681-4628 or visit jamesamechurch.org.

Attend Easter Fest Saturday

On Saturday, April 20, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Miller Meadow, 2199 S. 1st Ave. in Maywood, Empowerment Church will host Easter Fest Saturday. This event, which is free and open to the community, will feature egg hunts, games, activities, a petting zoo, pony rides and more. Have breakfast with the Easter Bunny

On Saturday, April 20, 10 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., at Schroeder Park, 2600 S. 13th Ave. in Broadview, the Broadview Park District will host Breakfast with the Easter Bunny. Breakfast: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Easter egg hunt: 12 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. Meet the Easter Bunny and get ready to find lots of candy-filled eggs (including six bonus eggs). $4 per person for breakfast. Celebrate Autism Awareness Month with mother-son authors

On Saturday, April 20, 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., at Afriware Books, 1701 S. 1st Ave. in Maywood (Suite 400 in the Eisenhower Tower), celebrate Autism Awareness Month with mother and son authors Daphne A. Kennedy—Johnson and Julian R. Johnson — the authors of My Brother is Wonderfully Different and The Popsicle Kids. Additional books and games authored by Daphne will be sold. Attend a free screening for head and neck cancers

On Monday, April 22, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center, 2160 S. First Ave. in Maywood, Loyola Medicine will host free head and neck cancer screening event. To register, call (888) 584-7888. VFP
