Proviso Township High Schools District 209 and the village of Maywood are poised to kickoff the One Proviso Safe Summer collaborative with a Youth Job Fair on Saturday, May 4, 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., at Proviso East High School, 809 S. 1st Ave. in Maywood.
The fair is the first event in the annual One Proviso Safe Summer initiative, which encourages Proviso Township youth to be active, engaged, and empowered during the summer.
The job fair will feature experts, who will be on site to give tips on creating job applications, job searches and resumes. Participants will also have an opportunity to meet with representatives from area businesses to learn about summer job, volunteer and internship opportunities.
“In Summer 2018, D209 launched an enrichment program that included original credit courses in journalism, mural arts, and consumer education,” said D209 Supt. Jesse J. Rodriguez. “This year, we have expanded our summer programs to include freshman STEAM programs where students must create a product and execute a real startup company.”
Village of Maywood Trustee Isiah Brandon, who has been leading the Safe Summer efforts for the past six years urged communities to be proactive to make sure the upcoming summer is safe for young people.
“We cannot afford to lose another promising future,” he said. “Now is the time to sound the alarm for all levels of the community to be proactive, instead of reactive.”
Interested business that would like to participate can register by contacting Trustee Brandon at (708) 261-9271 or D209 Community Outreach and Public Relations Coordinator Cynthia Moreno at (708) 545-3471 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
