The Maywood Police Department released more information about a shooting that happened on Monday, near an overpass on 9th Avenue in Maywood, between Harrison St. and Bataan Dr. — mere feet away from St. Eulalia Parish.
“Two vehicles were shooting at each other on the corner [of 9th and Bataan Dr.],” said Maywood Police Lt. Dennis Diaz on Tuesday. Diaz said that the shooting took place just after 4 p.m.
Both cars were gray Jeep Cherokees “with similar years,” Diaz said. A passenger of one of the vehicles, an adult male from Broadview, was shot in the left ankle.
He was rushed to Loyola University Medical Center by the driver of one of the vehicles. His injuries were not life-threatening. The man was the only person who was reportedly injured, Diaz added.
Police have not released the man’s name, since he’s currently a person of interest in the department’s ongoing investigation of the matter. There are currently no suspects in custody. Diaz said that he could not yet officially determine if the shooting was gang-related.
Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to call the Maywood Police Department at (708) 243-2120. VFP
