There’s a lot to do this week in Proviso Township. Here is just a small sampling of events available for you and the family: 

Hear the State of District 89

On Thursday, May 23, 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., at District 89’s Administrative Building, 906 Walton St. in Melrose Park, D89 officials will host a State of the District Community Meeting. Learn about district curriculum, student services and finances.

Space is limited. RSVP by registering online at Eventbrite. Free daycare provided. Light dinner served.

Taste a restaurant grand opening

On Friday, May 24, 2 p.m., at Cielito Lindo Mexican Café, 612 W. Lake St. in Maywood, the restaurant will hold its official grand opening. For more info, call (708) 938-5197.

Attend a Cannabis Town Hall

On Saturday, May 25, 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., at Bellwood Village Hall, 3200 Washington Blvd. in Bellwood, state Rep. Emanuel “Chris’ Welch (7th), 1st District Cook County Commissioner Brandon Johnson and Bellwood Mayor Andre Harvey, and the Bellwood Chamber of Commerce will host a Cannabis Town Hall. Who benefits when Illinois legalizes it?

Learn about natural oils

On Saturday, May 25, 1 p.m., at the Maywood Public Library, 125 S. 5th Ave. in Maywood, come and learn about natural healing with essential oils. Essential oils can provide relief from physical and emotional issues. Come with questions about health issues you may have and prepare to smell the oils!

Look ahead to Danny K. Davis’s Bellwood Town Hall

On Thursday, May 30, 7 p.m., at Bellwood Village Hall, 3200 Washington Blvd. in Bellwood, Congressman Danny K. Davis (7th) will host a town hall meeting for Bellwood residents to discuss the following: the Affordable Care Act, jobs and the economy, education, immigration, international issues and more!
