Peter Genualdi, Retired Maywood Firefighter, Dies

Community members in Proviso Township and beyond are mourning the death of retired Maywood firefighter Peter Genualdi, who died last week. He was 63 years old.

Maywood Fire Chief Craig Bronaugh said that the fire department was notified of Genualdi’s death on June 11. Bronaugh said that Genualdi joined the department in 1978 retired in 2011.

“Peter was a looked upon by all department members a leader on all levels,” Bronaugh said.

“When it came to teaching newer members about doing this job, and having fun at it as well, Peter was one of the ‘go-to guys,'” the chief said. “His presence around the fire department will always be missed and remembered.”

Genualdi’s wake is Sunday, June 16, 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Beidelman & Kunsch Funeral Home, 24021 Royal Worlington Drive in Naperville. The fire department walk-through will be at 7 p.m.

His visitation is Monday, June 17, 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., at Beidelman & Kunsch Funeral Home. His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m., at St. Raphael Catholic Church, 1215 Modaff Road in Naperville. VFP
