There’s a lot to do this week in Proviso Township. Here is just a small sampling of events available for you and the family: 

Attend a free youth football camp

On Saturday, June 29, 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., at Proviso East High School, 807 S. 1st Ave. in Maywood, Athletic Konnection will host a FREE Youth Football Instructional Camp that teaches techniques and skills, in addition to providing a platform for athletes to showcase their abilities in an innovative way.

Walk/run with Pink Divas and Gents

On Saturday, June 29, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., at Bellwood Village Hall, 3200 Washington Blvd. in Bellwood, the village of Bellwood will host its 2nd Annual Pink Divas and Gents Breast Cancer Walk/Run. Registration starts at 8 a.m. while the walk/run will start at 9:30 a.m.

Take a free trip to Horseshoe Casino

On Saturday, June 29, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Broadview Park District will host Casino Night at the Horseshoe. Park district officials will provide free transportation at 9 a.m. from the Broadview Park District, 2600 S. 13th Ave. in Broadview, to the Horseshoe Casino, 777 Casino Center Dr. in Hammond, Ind.

Taste food from great chefs for a cause

On Thursday, June 27, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., at Urban Pioneer Group, 7503 Madison St., join the nonprofit 209 Together for a scholarship fundraiser for Proviso grads. A $65 ticket purchase includes snacks from The Heritage, Small Batch Barbecue, Mexican Republic, Zesty Catering, Big Guys Sausage and Azucar Rococo, plus wine and beer donated by Half Acre Brewery and Tenzing Wines and Spirits.

A special pre-event with champagne and the Heritage chef doing an exclusive cooking demo costs $125. The event also features a silent auction and live music. Buy tickets online here.

Eat free this summer

This summer, Monday through Friday until Aug. 9, at Proviso Baptist Church, 1116 S. 5th Ave. in Maywood, Proviso Leyden Council for Community Action (PLCCA) is hosting a Summer Food Service Program. No registration required.

Breakfast is served every day from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Lunch is from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. For more information and to locate a meal site nearest you, or call (708) 865-0605 (Ext. 325). VFP
