On Saturday, Aug. 17, community members in Bellwood and Maywood were out in full force, despite the rain and overcast clouds, for two big events.

As people converged on Maywood Veterans Memorial Park for the annual Maywood Old Timers picnic (which was preceded by a Back to School Parade), other community members converged on the grounds of Christian Unity Church in Bellwood for the church’s annual Unity in the Community Festival.

Below are some photos from the day.

The annual Maywood Old Timers’ Picnic and Back to School Parade and Giveaway started at around 10 a.m. on Saturday, with representatives from area school districts and community organizations marching down Washington Boulevard toward Maywood Veterans Memorial Park,w here a crowd of hundreds — included red-shirted alumni of Roosevelt Elementary School in Broadview.
