Former Maywood Resident Killed in Walgreens Parking Lot Shooting

A former resident of Maywood was fatally shot in the parking lot of a Walgreens drugstore in Schaumburg, where the man had recently moved. The shooting happened at around 5:15 p.m. on Aug. 14, the Daily Herald reports.

The victim, 37-year-old Quentin D. Tillison, was pronounced dead at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge just after 2 a.m. on Aug. 15. The Herald cites local authorities and the Cook County medical examiner’s office, which ruled the death a homicide.

Davis Maywood Town Hall 2During a town hall meeting he hosted on Aug. 14 at Council Chambers, 125 S. 5th Ave. in Maywood, U.S. Rep. Danny K. Davis (D-7th) gave a dire assessment of a political climate controlled by Republicans and lorded over by President Donald Trump.

“We probably are in the worst position that we’ve been in in a long time,” Davis said, referencing the Democratic Party’s minority status in most statehouses and in Washington, D.C.

Loyola to Offer Free Cervical and Breast Cancer Screenings Aug. 19

Free mammograms and Pap tests will be offered at Loyola University Medical Center to qualifying uninsured women on Saturday, August 19.

The See, Test and Treat® event will be held at the Loyola Outpatient Center, 2160 S. First Ave., Maywood, Illinois. Advance registration is required and the number of appointments is limited. Women ages 30 to 64 interested in participating are invited to call 888-584-7888 to verify eligibility and make an appointment.

Maywood to Restrict Bikes

At a regular meeting on Aug. 15, the Maywood Board of Trustees will likely approve a code amendment that prohibits anyone over the age of 12 from riding bicycles, hover boards, skateboards and other wheeled devices on sidewalks in the village’s downtown area, which is considered the stretch of 5th Ave., from Quincy to Lake. Wheelchairs will be exempted from the new ordinance.
