J.W. Scott, a decorated Korean War veteran who went from driving cabs part-time while working at Campbell Soup Company to founding People Cab Co., based in Bellwood, has died.

Woman Dies After Car Crashes Into Freight Train In Melrose Park On Dec. 15

One woman is dead after a train struck a car at a railroad crossing on Dec. 15, according to multiple media reports and Maywood Fire Chief Craig Bronaugh.

A Fifth Third bank, located at 2501 North Ave. in Melrose Park, was robbed on Dec. 11, at around 9:10 a.m., according to an FBI alert. The robbery was a non-takeover.

Maywood Police Arrest Three Teens Suspected in Lyft Driver’s Murder

The Maywood Police Department has arrested three teenagers who were wanted in the fatal shooting of a Lyft Driver that happened in Maywood back in April, according to a statement that the department released on Nov. 22.

Maywood Approves Construction of 5th Ave. Development

During a regular meeting on Nov. 21, the Maywood Board of Trustees unanimously approved a redevelopment agreement that allows for the construction of a 68-unit, 5-story apartment building on the site of a vacant lot at 800-820 S. 5th Ave. in Maywood. The building will include 4,500 square feet of first-floor commercial space.
