The organizers of the annual Thanksgiving Day Celebration in honor of the late Eugene “Gene” Moore, a former state representative and Cook County Recorder of Deeds, are calling for volunteers and donations of food or money ahead of the Nov. 23 event.

During Ferrara Candy Company’s first-ever “Trunk-or-Treat” event, more than 300 kids received at least 1,000 pounds of donated Ferrara candy brands like Trolli, Lemonhead and Brach’s.

On Saturday, Oct. 7, Proviso East High School hosted its annual Homecoming parade, which started at Maywood’s Winfield Scott Park, before heading northbound and turning on Washington Blvd. From there, the paraders went east to Proviso East, where the Pirates played their crosstown rivals, the Proviso West Panthers.

Maywood Library to Host Chess Tourney Saturday, Oct. 7

Proviso East Homecoming Parade Scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 7

The annual Proviso East Homecoming Parade will take place on Saturday, Oct. 7. Participants will line up at 8 a.m., and the parade will begin at 9 a.m.

Anyone interested in participating should report to color guard coach Rodney Smith the morning of the parade at Winfield Scott Park, located at 19th Ave. and Maywood Dr. in Maywood, where the parade route begins.
