Melrose Park Store Is Among Top Sellers of ‘Crime Guns’ in Chicago Area

During last month’s Taste of Melrose Park, police in that village sold $10 raffle tickets for the chance to win a semiautomatic rifle alongside $3 artichoke casserole. The police, who also raffled off a handgun, said that the raffle was a fundraiser for their union, according to a Chicago Sun-Times report released at the time.

Theft of Trees, Flowers, Plants Reported at Maywood Park District

A string of thefts have been reported by Maywood Park District officials. According to district officials, a large tree that was planted several weeks ago went missing last week. Dawn Williams-Rone, the park district commission president, said she noticed the missing tree on the morning of Oct. 12.

Man Arrested After Leading Bellwood Police on Car Chase After Oct. 7 Shooting

On Oct. 7, Bellwood police arrested a man who allegedly led them on a chase during a shooting investigation, according to a Chicago Sun-Times report. The man eventually crashed on the I-290 Mannheim Road eastbound ramp.

Maywood Police Lobby Now a ‘Meetup Spot’ for Getting Items Bought Online

As part of a comprehensive effort to deter criminal activity that originates online, the Maywood Police Department recently announced that it will allow residents to use the lobby of the station at 125 S. 5th Ave. in Maywood in order to meet with people from whom they’ve purchased goods online through various means, such as mobile classified apps like LetGo and OfferUp.
