Rev. Wallace Wyatt Sykes, the longtime pastor of the more than century-old Second Baptist Church in Maywood — who was so influential in the village that a portion of Washington Boulevard, as well as a post office, were named in his honor — died on Saturday. He was 94 years old.

Northica Hillery Stone, who as the longtime head of the nonprofit Operation Uplift and founder of the West Town Museum of Cultural History in Maywood served for decades as the chief archivist of local memories and legacies, died on May 16.

James Harlan, the president and founder of the Just for Men group, an affiliate of the Answer Inc., a prominent autism awareness nonprofit founded by his wife, Debra Vines, has died. In a Facebook post uploaded Monday, Vines said that her husband died on May 13. He was 71.

Emanuel Robinson Jr., a veteran foreman who worked at Proviso East High School in Maywood for more than 30 years, died on April 8. He was 89 years old. Robinson’s death was confirmed by relatives.

Family members and relatives are mourning the death of Alicia Cora Pittman, a Maywood native and graduate of Irving Middle School and Proviso East High School. Pittman, who had relocated to North Carolina, died suddenly on March 18 after a series of health complications, a relative said. She was 45.
