Terri Sansone, of Forest Park, was in line at around 6 a.m. on Wednesday to catch a glimpse of the newly remodeled Broadview Aldi, 1001 W. Cermak Rd. The Sept. 13 grand reopening lured patrons from around the western suburbs.

Remodeled Broadview Aldi to Reopen on Sept. 13, Now Hiring

The Broadview Aldi, located at 1001 Cermak Rd., will open its doors for the first time on Wednesday since undergoing extensive renovations.

The store renovations are part of Aldi’s national plan to invest $1.6 billion in improving and expanding more than 1,300 stores in the United States within three years. Roughly $180 million of that national investment will go into 130 stores in the Chicago area.

Al’s Drive-In Named Among ‘Chicago’s Best’

Elliott Bambrough, of WGN’s “Chicago’s Best,” was in Maywood recently to visit Al’s Drive-In, the venerable diner that, for over five decades, has been located at 80 Madison St., right across the street from Proviso East High School.

“This one is a first for me,” Bambrough said, of his visit to the popular local destination. “Not just on Madison, but in the combination of food.”

Grocery Store Proposal for Former Maywood Market Stalled

An entrepreneur’s plan to purchase and turn 615 S. 5th Ave. in Maywood, which once housed the former Maywood Market, into a full-service grocery store called Save More Fresh Market has hit a snag in the road, according to village of Maywood officials.

Ali Hamden had offered $400,000 for the 22,000-square-foot, village-owned building and the roughly 61,000-square-foot, village-owned parking lot next to it.
