Rep. Davis demonstrates commitment to Alzheimer’s disease by supporting two very important pieces of legislation in Washington
Last month my family and friends walked in the Alzheimer’s Association “Walk to end Alzheimer’s”; the world’s largest event to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s disease. My mother Jane was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s 5 years ago and since then my family has banded together to raise funds to help advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association.
Alzheimer’s disease is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States and by the year 2050, the number of people age 65 and older with Alzheimer’s disease may triple from 5 million to as many as 16 million. The total combined costs of Alzheimer’s to families and Medicare/Medicaid was $214 billion in 2014.
This leads me to why I am writing today. I write because Congressman Danny Davis’s constituents should know that he is sponsoring both the HOPE Act (House Resolution 1507) and the Alzheimer’s Accountability Act (House Resolution 4351).
On behalf of the 210,000 Illinoisans with Alzheimer’s (5.2 million Americans) and our families, thank you Congressman Danny Davis for demonstrating your commitment to ending this horrific disease. VFP
