During a Nov. 14 regular meeting, the Maywood Board of Trustees formally recognized the life of Pedro Alvarez with a resolution presented to Alvarez’s family.

Pedro Alvarez, who a half-century ago started what was likely the first first Cuban restaurant in Maywood and, according to his son, perhaps the first one in the Chicago suburbs, died on Oct. 16.

Neighbors of Maywood Communiy Organization Meeting Tonight, Thursday, October 9th, 7 PM

The monthly meeting for Neighbors of Maywood Community Organization (NOMCO) is scheduled to take place tonight at El Prado Restaurant, 612 Lake Street, Maywood, IL. Tonight’s meeting will be hosted by David Lopez. NOMCO’s nonprofit status, the newsletter and membership applications will be up for discussion, among other matters.

The speaker tonight will be NOMCO president Lennel Grace, who will be discussing ‘Maywood: An Evolving Community Demographically and Opportunity for Positive Change and Growth.’ Next month’s speaker will be Maywood Police Chief Vladimir Talley. All are welcome. Please bring a guest!

NOMCO is one of the oldest, most respected civic organizations in Maywood and is focused on enhancing the quality of life in the village by focusing on areas such as beautification, historic preservation and social cohesion. VFP
