On Dec. 19, 2018, during the final board meeting before the new year, the village of Bellwood’s Board of Trustees voted to create the Bellwood Cares nonprofit organization, which will be responsible for distributing any profits generated by the annual Taste of Bellwood to local community organizations, school districts and institutions.

On Nov. 18, the nonprofit Best of Proviso Township, along with many local co-sponsors, hosted a free screening of the The Hate U Give — a movie about a police-involved shooting based on the 2017 novel of the same name by Angie Thomas.
