The village of Maywood recently formed a committee to explore developing the former Bushwood Golf Practice Center and Driving Range at 30 Madison St. in Maywood, right next door to Village Hall — perhaps into a municipal-owned parking lot or a space filled with solar panels.

The Maywood Board of Trustees recently signed off on a significant tax break for one of the village’s oldest businesses even as the village manager warned that the measure could lead to higher taxes for other property owners in town.

During a regular meeting on Aug. 21, the Maywood Board of Trustees voted 6-1 to lift a moratorium on Class M liquor licenses, which are given exclusively to video gaming establishments. Maywood Trustee Isiah Brandon was the lone dissenting vote. The measure opens up the possibility of more video gaming establishments coming to Maywood.
