Breaking: Bellwood Man Killed in Early Morning Shooting in Maywood

Police tape

Saturday, February 4, 2017 || By Michael Romain || @maywoodnews

A Bellwood man was murdered during a shooting that happened early Saturday morning in Maywood, police say.

Gregory Blackwell, 28, was fatally shot on the 1700 block of South 3rd Ave. in Maywood, said Maywood Police Chief Valdimir Talley. Blackwell was a manager at the Roosevelt Road Burger King in Maywood, said Talley.

The chief added that a detective has been assigned to the case and all investigative staff is assisting. Police are still gathering details about the murder, he said.

An employee at the Burger King where Blackwell worked said that he had been at the restaurant until around 4 p.m. yesterday before he headed home.

“When he left here he was happy,” said the employee. “We’re all pretty sad about what happened. We don’t know the circumstances. His family members told us about it. It’s really sad. He was a nice guy who always tried to help. He was a hard worker. He never looked for any problems.”

Blackwell’s homicide is Maywood’s third one this year, and the first one in February. More as this story develops. VFP
