As many as two dozen Chicago and suburban police squads and a helicopter engaged in a winding police chase that began in Lombard late Wednesday and moved along Chicago expressways to the downtown area, Lake View, Uptown, Rogers Park and other neighborhoods, as well as Oak Park and other suburbs.

The fugitive is wanted in a homicide investigation in west suburban Lombard.

After two hours, officers curtailed their pursuit when the fleeing car made its way into O’Hare International Airport territory, reportedly onto a runway. A helicopter unit continued to track the vehicle as of midnight but was denied entry into airport airspace.

Around 10 p.m., the long, snake-like parade of police cars began pursuing a silver, four-door sedan through the streets of Chicago and at various points on the Eisenhower and Stevenson expressways then back into the suburbs. The chase ran through Oak Park, Forest Park, River Forest, Maywood, Northlake, Addison, Stone Park, Melrose Park and Bensenville, among other communities.

The fugitive caused at least two accidents. The car also reportedly struck two pedestrians somewhere along the route. Pursuing officers also tracked the fleeing vehicle along parallel streets at times.

Twitter user Ian Petchenik tracked the chase on the police scanner and put together this Google map showing the fugitive’s route. (follow him: @petchmo). To read more, click here.

The Chicago Sun-Times published a story on the chase. Apparently, the suspect, who was driving a Pontiac, wasn’t located. The car, however, “was found abandoned ‘many hours later’ in northwest Bensenville,” according to Lombard police. “The vehicle was towed to the Lombard Police Department for processing.”

Breaking: Blue Line Train Derails At O’Hare, Possible Commuter Delays

Monday, March 24, 2014 || By Peter Nickeas, The Chicago Tribune

Thirty people were injured after a CTA Blue Line train derailed and hit a platform at O’Hare International Airport about 2:55 a.m. Monday.

The injuries are not life threatening, according to early reports from the scene to Chicago Police Department headquarters, Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said.

The Chicago Fire Department asked for an EMS Plan 2 at the scene, which brings 10 ambulances and a handful of support vehicles and supervisors.

It’s not clear how fast the train was moving but it jumped a bumper at the end of the line and moved up an escalator, according to Chicago Fire Department Spokesman Larry Langford.

The CTA posted to its Twitter page that trains were stopped at O’Hare but running between the Logan Square and Rosemont stops.

CTA Spokeswoman Lambrini Lukidis said buses were being used between the Rosemont and O’Hare stops. VFP
