Area lawmakers recently announced that they plan on delving deeper into the pending closure of Westlake Hospital, 1225 W. Lake St. in Melrose Park, during a formal hearing on the matter to be held this week.

A shivering crowd of at least 40 people gathered under snowfall and in 20-degree weather on Monday morning just across the street from Westlake to protest the recent decision by the hospital’s new owner to close the institution.

A coalition of community leaders is planning to protest the impending closure of Westlake Hospital, 1225 W. Lake Street in Melrose Park, at 9:15 a.m. on Feb. 18. The demonstration will take place in front of the hospital.
